If you’re looking for a healthy dessert recipe, I am giving you one right here. This bite is a cross between a nut bar and a praline. The maple syrup and honey caramelize and harden slightly giving you a crunchy, nutty bite with just a hint of sweetness. Perfect for your next hiking trip!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup (205 g) raw almonds

  • 1/4 cup (40g) raw cashews

  • 4 (48 g) Medjool dates, chopped small

  • 1/4 cup (41 g) raisins

  • 1/2 tbsp (3 g) orange zest

  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) honey

  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) maple syrup

  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt

Directions

Pre-heat oven to 350°F/177°C Line a 9 x 9-inch (23 x 23-cm) baking pan with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, add almonds, cashews, chopped dates, raisins, orange zest, honey, maple syrup and salt. Mix well and spoon into the parchment-lined baking pan. Use a spatula to tightly pack and press the mixture into an even layer. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes and cool completely. Cut into 1 1/2-inch (4-cm) square bars. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 weeks.
