A Prairie Home Companion host Chris Thile has been obsessing over sherry lately. Thile says he loves the oxidized, nutty character of sherry that reminds him of pistachios. He shared with us this recipe for The Sherry Cocktail invented by the fine folks at The Dead Rabbit in New York City. Thile says he learned about it from the book Sherry by Talia Baiocchi. He guarantees it will be a hit at your holiday party.

Ingredients (Thile's suggestions in parenthesis)

  • 3 ounces of Oloroso (Fernando de Castillo)

  • 3/4 ounce dry orange çuracao (Pierre Ferrand)

  • 1/4 ounce maraschino liqueur (gotta be Luxardo!)

  • Two dashes Angostura bitters

  • Two dashes orange bitters (Regan's)

  • One dash of absinthe (Kübler)

Directions

Combine ingredients in mixing glass, fill with ice, and stir.

Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with a lemon twist, making sure to actually twist the lemon oil onto the surface of the cocktail first.
